Day 1: Across the forest, emerald waters, glaciers and volcanoes

We were picked up in Puerto Varas and took a scenic drive alongside Lake Llanquihue with views of Osorno (2652m), and Calbuco volcano (2100m). Excited, we arrived at Lake Todos los Santos and our friendly guide reviewed the basic safety procedures. We loaded up our kayaks with gear, all ready for our self- supported sea kayak trip. We sat aboard our kayaks and paddled alongside the coastline with jaw-dropping forest and volcanic views. That night at the campsite I finally understood the term ‘peace and quiet’ as we lay back and stargazed, taking in the remote and pristine wonderworld we were lucky enough to be a part of.

Day 2: Deeper into the mountain. Water falls and bays.

Today, each minute, we ventured deeper east into the Andes Mountains. My waterproof camera got a serious workout with the tremendous Tronador peak topped with glacial icing, featuring in half the shots on my memory card! We stopped for lunch at a secret beach and after all that paddling, decided to cool off in the emerald waters of the lake. Tonight we camped under the twinkling Andes night sky and listened to the unusual ‘night crunches’ of the glacial landscape. Maybe I should pinch myself? Surely this has got to be a dream.

Day 3: Arrival to Peulla and visit to Petrohue Waterfalls

Today we had a nice relaxed kayak session on the quiet lake, taking time to absorb the lush forests that surrounded us. I was mesmerized by the beautiful waterfalls we encountered – each one seemed to be more stunning than the last. When we arrived at Peulla village we took a 2-3 hour scenic boat ride back to the starting point. (We enjoyed the power of a motorboat after 3 days of our own paddle-power!) There was just enough time for a leisurely stroll alongside the iconic Petrohue waterfall, hugged by a volcanic rock formation before returning to Puerto Varas in the late afternoon.
