Trip in a Nutshell

This unique airport-only trip visits 4 airports within 48 hours. You will depart Hong Kong, which regularly tops the Skytrax World Airports awards and have plenty of time prior to your flight to experience everything from 9 holes of golf to 4D cinema in this wonderfully built airport. Your first flight takes you to Taipei, our bonus destination, where you will have the chance to visit the famous Hello Kitty boarding gate before your next flight takes you Singapore. There you will have all night to explore this AMAZING airport, visiting themed gardens, having a crazy spa treatment where tiny fish nibble the dead skin off your feet and so much more. It's your choice whether you would like to stay airside or sleep in the nearby Crowne Plaza with a runway facing room with a view of the tarmac. The next morning you will board your plane to South Korea, where you will land at the 2012 airport award winner, Incheon International with Golf-town, wildflower gardens and foreigner-only casinos to continue your good luck.

  • Expertise: Airports around the world. I'm well travelled and have personally reviewed countless airports around the world. My blog is also syndicated by Reuters in the UK and US which I think stands for a quality approval :-). I also have a food business (cheese import) and love to combine the two sides.
  • Bio: Tom is a seasoned traveller and has lived in various countries in Europe before moving to Australia where he lives now. Tom loves flying around the world be it for business or leisure. The only thing he hates is waiting at the airport for a flight that is delayed. After extensive (and often times delayed) travels around Europe, Tom had an idea when he received yet another lengthy delay in June 2008 at Copenhagen airport: He thought why not play a little game of his own and look closer at what this particular airport has to offer besides the obvious (boring) things. This was the moment when the idea for this blog started and resulted in its first entry about the delay at Denmark's Kastrup airport.

HONG KONG AIRPORT: Our unique airport holiday begins in China so make sure arrive nice and early to experience one of the world’s top airports. On your way, why not check out Hong Kong’s "miniature" Disneyland just 15 minutes from terminal 2? After check-in, getting in nine holes is par for the course, thanks to the USGA-approved SkyCity Nine Eagles Golf Course adjacent to Terminal 2. Didn't pack your clubs? No worries, you can rent them there. Next you visit the aerospace museum in Terminal 2 and then sit back and watch a 4D movie, (yes you read that right!) it's cheap at roughly $90 HKD roughly and lasts 15 minutes. Before you board our flight there’s also time for a quick massage, now you’re traveling.

Flight 1: 1h 40m

TAIWAN TAOYUAN AIRPORT: Get ready for some kittification at terminal 3 with the famous Hello Kitty Dream World at Taiwan airport. Travel through the airport, see the Baby Kitty nursery, wait for your flight at the Kitty waiting area, play in the Kitty playground and shop for *exclusive* Taiwan only merchandise from the Sanrio Gift Gate shop! For literary-minded travelers can rent an iPad or e-reader that contains more than 400 works, available in both Chinese and English and spanning all genres at what has been billed as the world's first e-book airport library.

Flight 2: 4h 40m

CHANGI AIRPORT, SINGAPORE: When it comes to ways to entertain yourself at the airport, Changi takes the prize. Routinely voted among the world's best airports, it features a laundry list of enticements, including five themed gardens, one of them home to more than a thousand butterflies; free calf-massage stations, as well as a spa at which you can get one of the crazy treatments where tiny fish nibble the dead skin off your feet; a free movie theater that plays first-run films; free Xbox and PlayStation game consoles; a 40-foot-high slide that you can zoom down at 19 feet per second; a rooftop swimming pool; prayer rooms; designated napping facilities; and a mobile post office that makes sending home those "Wish you were here" postcards a breeze. Here you will spend the night at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport Hotel watching planes take off and land from your room facing the airport runway. (Don’t worry the rooms are very modern and very well insulated against the noise from the air traffic.)

Flight 3: 6h 10m

INCHEON AIRPORT, SEOUL: Our final stop is South Korea. What other airport doubles as a veritable cultural museum, where visitors can don traditional Korean garb, peruse 5,000-year-old UNESCO artifacts, or make their own hanji (Korean-style paper) handicrafts for free while watching a live arts performance? Or, has an ice-skating rink made of artificial "plastic" ice, so you stay dry if you fall? As if that weren’t enough, Seoul’s superlative Incheon airport boasts a newly completed "golf town" with a 330-yard driving range, 18-hole putting course, and swing analysis center; fragrant pine and wildflower gardens and an adjacent foreigners-only casino. Browse shops from legendary brands like Louis Vuitton and Harley Davidson; book a Thai massage or private sleeping room ($18 includes shower and sauna) at the classy 24-hour Spa on Air

Phew… so that’s it, 4 countries, 48 hours, hopefully you realize there’s so much more to check out than just checking out.
